Course Description
his seminar-style course addresses advanced issues in Computational Syntax. We will talk about algorithmic approaches to the three major processing tasks related to syntax (parsing, generation and grammar learning) and issues regarding the necessary linguistic resources (grammars/lexica and corpora). Starting from some classical papers, we will look at recent research contributions both from a technologically oriented and from a cognitive/linguistic setting. The specific topics covered will include chart-based parsing techniques for higher-level grammar formalisms, generation with reversible grammars, computational aspects of Optimality-Theoretic Syntax, shallow syntactic analysis, and probabilistic models of syntax.
