Course Description
Part of knowing how to speak a language is knowing what sounds go where. This knowledge is phonology: the set of restrictions on the distribution of speech sounds in a language. This course provides an introduction to phonology in human languages. It will cover the following topics (among others): What kinds of restrictions on distribution occur? How are these restrictions represented in speakers minds? Where do these restrictions come from? How do speakers learn them?
Grading Policy
The grade will be based on homework assignments (about one a week) and two quizzes.
