Graduate Programs

Introduction

The Department of Linguistics offers programs of study leading to the B.A., M.A. and the Ph.D. Theoretical approaches in all areas of linguistics are emphasized, providing a thorough grounding in five core areas of linguistics: phonetics, phonology, syntax, semantics and historical linguistics. Advanced courses are offered in the fields already mentioned and in the other major branches of linguistics, including, computational linguistics, language acquisition, morphology, neurolinguistics, pidgin and creole studies, and sociolinguistics.
Students may also elect to take related course work in the Departments of Anthropology, Computer Sciences, Philosophy, and Psychology, as well as specific language departments.
