Graduate Programs

Introduction

The Department of Linguistics offers programs of study leading to the B.A., M.A. and the Ph.D. Theoretical approaches in all areas of linguistics are emphasized, providing a thorough grounding in four core areas of linguistics: phonetics, phonology, syntax, and semantics. Advanced courses are offered in the fields already mentioned and in other areas of linguistics, including descriptive and documentary linguistics, computational linguistics, language acquisition, morphology, neurolinguistics, pidgin and creole studies, historical linguistics, language contact, and the linguistics of signed languages.
Students may also elect to take related course work in the Departments of Anthropology, Computer Sciences, Philosophy, and Psychology, as well as specific language departments.
