The Department of Linguistics offers programs of study leading to the BA, MA and the PhD Theoretical approaches in all areas of linguistics are emphasized, providing a thorough grounding in four core areas of linguistics: phonetics, phonology, syntax, and semantics. Advanced courses are offered in the fields already mentioned and in other areas of linguistics, including descriptive and documentary linguistics, computational linguistics, language acquisition, morphology, neurolinguistics, pidgin and Creole studies, historical linguistics, language contact, and the linguistics of signed languages.
