Overview

The Arabic Flagship Program (AFP) at The University of Texas at Austin offers a five year training program in Arabic language and culture for undergraduates and incoming freshman. Our Scholars receive the resources and training to reach superior level Arabic, ILR 3/3+, while pursuing an undergraduate major of their choice.

Most scholars join the AFP after enrolling in Arabic, excelling in the class, and developing a passion for the language. However, we do accept students into the program with any level of Arabic, including, in exceptional cases, complete beginners. A typical UT AFP Scholar is a student with a GPA of 3.5 or above, who has demonstrated a talent for language learning. S/he is committed to the language and has career goals that can not be truly fulfilled without expertise in the Arabic language. Current Scholars have career goals that include planning to work for the government, in international business, education, international aid and advertising.
