Summer 2007
The program will begin with a four and a half day long workshop on the UT-Austin campus from May 21 -25. Over the course of this workshop, students will engage in discussions and research on the main themes of the program and prepare for the travel portion of the program. students will begin to design an independent research project in coordination with the faculty leaders. This independent research project, dealing with a comparative aspect of the history, culture, development, or society of these two countries, will provide the main focus for each student over the course of the summer and fall.
Students will enroll in the Mediterranean Crossroads Study Abroad Seminar. During the first summer term, students will take their educational experience into the field. Under the guidance of two University of Texas faculty, students will engage in study via lecture, site visits, and activities at various locations on Sicily and Morocco. The summer component will provide students with the opportunity to refine their individual research projects and work with faculty leaders toward achieving their academic and personal goals for the seminar.
Tentative travel dates are May 29 - July 1. (Dates may vary depending on flight availability and other considerations - please check with program officials before scheduling other activities or travel.)
Fall 2007
Students will enroll in the Mediterranean Crossroads Conference Course, in which they will complete their self-designed independent research projects with faculty supervision. (Students may choose to complete their research project during the second summer term with faculty approval.)
