Course Description
This course introduces the basics of Modern Standard Arabic. Students will learn the Arabic alphabet, the writing system (print and cursive), the sound system, simple language constructions, elementary grammar and a vocabulary of approximately 300 words. By the end of the semester students are expected to master basic conversational skills, be able to read vocalized and unvocalized texts, be able to write paragraph-long compositions and comprehend simple reading passages with the assistance of a basic glossary. The course involves regular use of audio-visual materials in Arabic. (Language course descriptions may vary per instructor, please see instructor for details)
