Course Description

The seminar intends to focus on the historical and cultural production of facts and their representation in the social sciences. It will follow debates in contemporary social theory and historiography on the relationship between anthropology and history. Students will read ethnographies, historical texts and fiction that engage with issues of political economy, colonial experience, power, globalization and gender. The readings, although not limited to, shall be mostly on Middle East and South Asia. This engagement will allow the seminar to develop a critical perspective on the production of knowledge.
