Course Description

This language-competency-based course is designed for students who have completed First-Year Persian II or its equivalent as well as students who have had exposure to Persian and who pass a placement exam for PRS 507. Students in Second-Year Persian I will further develop listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills and also build on their knowledge of grammar and vocabulary acquired in first-year Persian. Primary emphasis in this course is on reading comprehension. Authentic reading materials from the assigned texts are used to improve students' reading and listening comprehension skills. At the end of the semester, students are expected to be able to handle a variety of authentic Persian texts, including short stories, plays, newspaper and magazine articles, and social science texts, with the aid of a dictionary, which will prepare them to reach the level of language skills established in the University Standard Exit Criteria approved for second-year Persian by the American Association of Teachers of Persian

Grading Policy

Exams and quizes 60%; daily assignments, 20%; class participation, 20%.
