Course Description

In addition to learning about the writings of Iran nationalists and other political ideologues, this course has six Persian-language-related goals. First, students will advance their reading skills by reading selected Persian texts on Nationalism (typically around 50 pages per week). Second, students will advance their listening skills by listening to or watching selections from modern media, including news broadcasts, and lectures. Third, students will advance their speaking skills by performing language-based tasks in Persian in class using the above texts and media selections, such as presenting and discussing the author's/speaker’s main point, argument, methodology, and writing/speaking style, identifying difficult language issues, and formulating and answering questions in both structured and free-form discussions. Fourth, students will improve their writing skills by writing (and re-writing) a paper in Persian. Fifth, students will improve their public speaking skills by giving formal presentations. Sixth, students will improve their translation skills by translating a selected primary text.

Grading Policy
