Course Description
This survey course, open to undergraduates and graduate students who can read Persian well, familiarizes students with classic modern texts of Persian poetry and situates those texts in the context of 1,100 years of poetry in the Persian language. Additional information will be provided by the instructor.
Grading Policy
Undergraduate: class participation 20%, two review tests 60% (30% each), & a term paper 20%. Graduate: complete foregoing course requirements & also write a research paper on a topic chosen in consultation with the instructor.
Texts
M. Hillmann's Only Sound Remians: Essays on Persian Poetry (2009), and a packet of Persian texts called "Classic of Modern(ist) Persian Poetry".
