Course Description

This course introduces advanced students of Arabic to issues and approaches in the field of Arabic linguistics. Topics include syntax, phonology, morphology, historical linguistics, dialectology, sociolinguistics, and second language acquisition. Students will also pursue a research topic of their own according to their interests. Advanced proficiency in Arabic is required, and the class will be discussion-based and conducted in Arabic with readings and assignments in both Arabic and English.
