MES 381 • POST-ZION PERSP IN ISRAEL LIT
3:00 PM-6:00 PM
This seminar explores Israeli literature and cinema through in the context of the controversial historical, cultural, and artistic development that has come to be known as "post-Zionism." Post-Zionism is an ideological position that proposes a reconfiguration of the most basic premises of Zionist-Israeli identity. Under the rubric of post-Zionism, feminists, Palestinian and Mizrahi activists, queer activists, and various other representatives of marginalized groups have found an opportunity for expression that was not available to them within the Eurocentric framework of Zionism that has officially characterized Israel since 1948. Yet, often among these very groups, the term and its associations are hotly contested. The very concept of post-Zionism strikes at a raw nerve.
