A lecture by Patricia Cox Miller, Syracuse University

For early Christian authors, animals were not only part of the natural world but also complex metaphors–wild beasts, for example, serving as signs of the disturbing passions of human beings.  My presentation explores several such zoological mappings of the human body and soul.
