I study the religions of ancient Israel (1200-333 BCE) using the cognitive tools provide by religious studies, comparative Semitic linguistics, and epigraphy. So far my research has focused on linguistic issues, such as the dating of Biblical texts using Old Persian loanwords and calques. In the future I hope to examine the religious beliefs, practices, and attitudes mentioned in the Hebrew bible and preserved in the archaeological record. I would also like to examine cross-cultural contact in the wider ancient near eastern and ancient Mediterranean world.
