Graduate Student Support

Through a combination of departmental and university fellowships and graduate student employment, the Center for and Department of Middle Eastern Studies offer students many resources to finance their graduate education.

The Center funds nearly half of its graduate students; the Department funds over 80% of its student body. Students who are unfunded by the department are often able to secure financial assistance through external awards and academic employment in other departments across campus.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Students seeking aid from the Center for or Department of Middle Eastern Studies must submit the Middle Eastern Studies Funding Application along with all required materials by the deadline. This common application is used for most CMES and DMES funding resources. Some awards require a separate application, and this is indicated in the award descriptions.

Application deadline: December 15
Award notification: March through May

Complete funding applications consist of the following materials:

Application form
Statement(s) of purpose
Letters of recommendation (3)
Transcripts

Transcripts and some letters of recommendation may be reused from previous year’s funding applications, but a new application form and an updated statement of purpose will be required each year. At least one new letter of recommendation must be submitted as well.
