Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships
The Center for Middle Eastern Studies offers a limited number of FLAS Fellowships for the study of Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, or Turkish. Bailey R. Collins/Ellene Collins Ward/Mary Sue Collins Hibbs Scholarship
Undergraduate students who are eligible are encouraged to apply. Eligibility is based on the following criteria:
- Student is officially declared as a major in one of the MELC programs.
- Student has completed at least sixty semester hours of undergraduate work.
- Student has at least thirty hours in residence.
- Student has a GPA of at least 3.7.
Please pick up the application form at the departmental office, WMB 5.120. Additional information about the scholarships can be found in the Undergraduate Catalog (p. 236 in the 2000-2002 catalog; please ignore the deadlines indicated in the catalog).
The deadline for application is generally early November. Please contact the Department for further information on deadlines.
The Dan C. Danciger scholarships will be awarded to selected eligible students.
Undergraduate and graduate students of good academic standing who are currently enrolled in Hebrew classes, will be enrolled in Hebrew classes in the spring semester of 2006, and can demonstrate commitment to Hebrew studies, are eligible. Preference will be given to students with a declared Hebrew undergraduate major or graduate field of study.

The application deadline is generally late October. Scholarships are usually announced by mid-November.
