Language Study

As language and culture are inherently bound, language study provides a powerfully effective link to world cultures. Thus, the LCP encourages cadets and midshipmen to deepen their knowledge of Middle Eastern cultures through UT’s course offerings in Persian and Arabic. The University’s programs in these languages are two of the strongest in the nation, earning well-deserved reputations attributed to renowned faculty, carefully designed curricula and ambitious, motivated students.

Coursework in both Persian and Arabic may be applied to language or electives requirements for many degree plans at UT. For cadets and midshipmen enrolled in Persian or Arabic, the LCP offers graduate student mentors to assist them in their studies and promote successful advancement in language proficiency. Scholarships covering tuition, fees and books may also be available for summer study of Persian or Arabic.

Cultural Exposure

Throughout the year, cadets and midshipmen will have many opportunities to gain insight into Persian and Arab cultures. Regularly scheduled brown bag meetings, lectures and other events will introduce cadets and midshipmen to the foods, religions, history and customs of the Middle East and will promote discussion of important topics related to culture and politics with experts in the field.

Study Abroad

The LCP is devoted to providing overseas experiences to cadets and midshipmen interested in Persian and Arab culture. From short cultural excursions to summer-long intensive language programs, the LCP offers many fully funded opportunities for cadets and midshipmen to gain firsthand knowledge of the peoples, languages and cultures of the Middle East.
