AFP Assistant Instructors
Kevin Burnham received his Master's degree in Arabic from Georgetown University in 2006 and lived and studied in Cairo, Egypt for two years. At UT, Kevin studies applied linguistics and Arabic language pedagogy and is particularly interested in the neurocognition of second language acquisition.
Cory Jorgensen is a PhD candidate in Arabic studies. He has taught beginning ancient Greek at Utah State University and at UT has served as a teaching assistant for various courses in the Classics Department and as an assistant instructor for beginning Latin. He has also served three semesters as a teaching assistant for beginning Arabic.
Summer Loomis earned her MA from the University of Washington in Arabic Language and Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language. She has studied in Egypt, Syria and Jordan and is interested in issues pertaining to Arabic Language instruction. Summer was an Arabic Flagship Fellow from 2003-2004 on the overseas Arabic Flagship program in Egypt.
AFP Teaching Assistants
Alex Magidow is a MA/PhD candidate in Arabic Studies. His ultimate goal is to become an Arabic professor, and he is particularly interested in Arabic pedagogy and the relationship between regional dialects of Arabic and the standard language forms.
Steve Robertson received a B.A. in Near Eastern Studies and Russian from Brigham Young University. He is currently working on his MA in Arabic Studies at the University of Texas. His main research interests are pedagogy and Arabic dialects. He speaks Russian, Standard Arabic, and the Syrian Arabic dialect, but is open to learning other dialects. He lived in Syria for almost two and a half years. From January 2000 to May 2001 he lived in Damascus to study the Syrian dialect while working as an English teacher, and then again from July 2004 to June 2005 as a student in the flagship program at Damascus University
