You should see the advisor at least once a year- a short meeting with him/her may save you time and money. You should also be in touch with the Undergraduate Coordinator, who works closely with the advisor.

Advising Bars
The purpose of advising bars is to make sure that students contact the undergraduate advisor before they proceed with their degree plan. Advising bars, which prevent students from registering via TEX, are placed on the records of incoming freshmen and newly transferred students and on the records of students who are under scholastic probation. The undergraduate advisor may also decide to place an advising bar on the records of a student who seems to be straying from a reasonable degree plan or who is slipping into a low GPA. Advising bars will be removed only after the student contacts the undergraduate advisor or the undergraduate/graduate coordinator. Students are encouraged to contact the undergraduate/graduate coordinator routinely prior to registration time to check whether their records are barred.
RIS forms indicate whether your records are barred-- remember to pick them up prior to registration time!
