Graduate Admissions
The Department of Middle Eastern Studies accepts applications for the master’s and doctoral programs in Arabic, Hebrew, and Persian Studies. Applicants interested in the master’s program in Middle Eastern Studies should apply to the Center for Middle Eastern Studies.
UT's graduate admissions applications are processed by the Graduate and International Admissions Center (GIAC). Please review their website for in-depth information on the admission process.
Admission Criteria
To be considered for admission to the Department students should have:
- A competitive score on the Graduate Record Examination General Test (GRE)
- A recommended grade point average of 3.0 or higher (on a four-point scale) in all upperdivision and graduate-level course work attempted or completed
- A competitive score on the TOEFL or IELTS for foreign applicants whose native language is not English
Other criteria vary by program. Please refer to the Graduate Catalog or the appropriate sections of the program website for these criteria.
The Department considers a score of 500 on the verbal section of the GRE to be a minimum requirement. However, the admission process is holistic in nature; a lower GPA or less competitive GRE scores may be weighed in light of other credentials.
