Jewish Studies and Beyond 2006-07

Posted: September 25, 2006

Beta was established in 2005 by Dr. Ruth Eshel who ten years earlier created the Eskesta Dance Group - composed of students of Ethiopian origin studying at the University of Haifa. Beyond their artistic goals, Beta has a strong commitment to Neve Yoseph, a large, underprivileged community near Haifa populated by Jews from the Diaspora, with a sizable number of new and old immigrants of Ethiopian descent. Beta has established its home in Neve Yoseph and is fostering young Ethiopian talent.

Austin will be one of only four cities the Troupe will be touring in the USA this year. The performance is free of charge; on-street parking or in the Dobie Mall garage at 21st and Guadalupe. With support from Texas Hillel, The UT Center for African and African-AmericanStudies, and the Austin Jewish Film Festival.
