The Biblical Hebrew Summer Language Institute at UT: Raising the Bar

The University of Texas at Austin's Biblical Hebrew Summer Institute offers an intensive language program for Beginners. The program will be coordinated by Professor Jo Ann Hackett, a leading Hebrew Bible scholar, a prominent authority in language teaching and development, and author of one of the best college grammar books of Biblical Hebrew. Her unique method will be used in this course.

The program is ten weeks in length (May 28-August 3, 2012) with a long-weekend break (July 6-9) in the middle, includes over 200 contact hours, and features:

  • An intensive ten-week summer program equivalent to one full academic year
  • Daily teaching sessions with an assistant to review and practice class material

Biblical Hebrew Language Courses

The Biblical Hebrew Summer Institute promises to offer students a rigorous course of instruction leading to higher levels of proficiency in the language. Students will emerge from the program with confidence in their ability to read, pronounce, and comprehend Biblical Hebrew and with a deepened appreciation for ancient Israelite culture.

Courses offered:

  • Biblical Hebrew I
  • Biblical Hebrew II

Who Should Apply?

All qualified undergraduate and graduate students interested in Biblical Hebrew, Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, or Semitic languages are encouraged to apply (competitive admission by application). The course assumes absolutely no background in Hebrew.

What Will It Cost?

The tuition for the program will be approximately $3,800, excluding travel, room and board, and other living expenses.
