Biography

Lieutenant Christopher Ehlinger, a native of Clewiston, Florida graduated from Duke University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He completed qualifications at Naval Nuclear Power School and Nuclear Power Training Unit on MTS-626, USS Daniel Webster, in Charleston, South Carolina.  LT Ehlinger finished his initial submarine training at the Submarine Officer Basic Course in Groton, Connecticut.

Upon reporting to USS West Virginia Blue in King’s Bay, Georgia, LT Ehlinger was assigned as the Reactor Controls Assistant and subsequently as the Main Propulsion Assistant leading his divisions in preparations for once in a lifetime refueling and overhaul period in Norfolk Naval Shipyard. LT Ehlinger successfully completed two strategic deterrent patrols, completing his tour as Assistant Engineer while helping to ensure a successful nuclear refueling.

LT Ehlinger reported to Destroyer Squadron Two Eight onboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower in August of 2012 as the Submarine Operations Officer.  At sea, he ensured all Strike Group assets were ready and capable to conduct the Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) mission during two deployments to the 5th and 6th Fleet AORs. In port, he successfully orchestrated the tactical employment of multiple surface ships, fixed-wing, and rotary-wing aircraft, for multiple major exercises.

As an Assistant Professor of Naval Science, LT Ehlinger now serves on the Naval ROTC staff of the University of Texas at Austin.  He is a graduate of the Prospective Nuclear Officer’s course and earned his Master’s of Engineering Management from Old Dominion University. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (x2), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and other campaign and unit awards.
