Welcome Aboard

Welcome to the University of Texas Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) website. I am Captain Mike Spence, United States Navy, the Commanding Officer of the Unit. During my years in the Navy, I have had the opportunity to influence many young men and women, but never have I had the opportunity to more directly influence the professional development of our future leaders than here at the University of Texas.

BN

Our battalion is comprised of scholarship midshipmen, enlisted officer candidates from both the Navy and the Marine Corps, and college students who have "walked on" in the hope of earning a merit-based scholarship. However, being part of our Naval ROTC Unit is more than just receiving free tuition and books for our scholarship students.

We offer the opportunity to participate in numerous and diverse activities in developing future officers that range from various civic events to intramural sports. In addition to these events, we offer the chance to earn a commission as an Ensign in the United States Navy or a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps upon the conclusion of college. No matter which program you enter, or which career specialty you choose, the years you spend in NROTC will be among the most challenging and rewarding of your life. You will be making the transition to adulthood and at the same time preparing for the demanding and critically important duties of a military officer. Again, welcome aboard. Go Navy! Hook'em Horns!
