Ancient Philosophy
The Joint Program in Ancient Philosophy leads to the Ph.D. in either Philosophy or Classics, and students are admitted through either department. To be recognized as graduates of the program, students must take their supporting work in the other of the two departments and write a dissertation in ancient philosophy supervised by a committee drawn from both departments.
An informal faculty-student discussion group is organized each semester with an agenda either of presentations of work-in-progress by faculty and student members or of close readings of Greek texts. There are also visits by leading scholars in the field and an annual Ancient Philosophy Workshop.
