Metaphysics and Epistemology
The Department is an active center for research in metaphysics and epistemology. Issues explored by members of the faculty include causation, particulars and universals, realism and idealism, reduction and supervenience, identity and individuation, reference to nonexistent objects, moral epistemology, philosophy of mathematics, and philosophy of religion.
Informal reading groups in metaphysics have concentrated on such topics as mental causation, naturalism, objectivity, response-dependence, and philosophy of mathematics.
