Research interests:
Professor Bonevac works mainly in metaphysics, philosophy of mathematics, semantics, and philosophical logic. His book Reduction in the Abstract Sciences (1982) received the Johnsonian Prize from The Journal of Philosophy. His other books include Deduction (second edition, Blackwell, 2002), Simple Logic (Oxford, 1999), and Worldly Wisdom (Mayfield, 2001). Among Professor Bonevac's recent articles are 'Against Conditional Obligation' (Nous,1998), 'Naturalism for the Faint of Heart' (in Preyer and Siebelt (ed.), Reality and Humean Supervenience, 2001), 'Sellars vs. the Given' (Philosophy and Phenomenological Research, 2002), 'Reflection Without Equilibrium' (The Journal of Philosophy, 2004), and 'The Conditional Fallacy' (with Josh Dever and David Sosa; Philosophical Review, 2006). He was Chairman of the Department of Philosophy from 1991 to 2001. He has received several National Science Foundation grants and serves on the editorial board of Essays in Philosophy.
