Research interests:
His areas of specialization are ancient ethics and psychology, Aristotle and his school, and Hellenistic philosophy. He is the author of Sovereign Virtue: Aristotle on the Relation between Prosperity and Happiness (Stanford, 1992) and articles on Aristotle, Plato, Cicero, Greek tragedy, and Hellenistic poetry. His current projects include a commentary on Cicero's On Ends Book 5 (Oxford: Clarendon Later Ancient Philosophers) and an edition of sources for Hieronymus of Rhodes; he is also co-editing with W.W. Fortenbaugh two volumes of material on the Early Hellenistic Lyceum (Rutgers University Studies in Classical Humanities vols. 12 and 13). He has held an ACLS Fellowship and has been a member of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.
