About Ex Nihilo
Ex Nihilo is a student-run philosophy journal, which seeks to serve as an outlet for undergraduate philosophy essays of exceptional quality. The journal is produced by the Undergraduate Philosophy Association (UPA), and supported in large part by the Department of Philosophy at The University of Texas at Austin. Ex Nihilo is published in the spring.
If you are interested in submitting a paper to Ex Nihilo, please see below for further information. We encourage submissions covering any philosophical topic that meets the requirements. This may include papers written for specific classes so long as that can be sufficiently self-sustained and insightful.

- Length: 10-20 pages double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font. We will take submissions of papers over 20 pages, but those will likely be edited for brevity.
- Topic: Any philosophical topic of substance is acceptable.
- Format: All papers must include an abstract of no more than 100 words. Do not include your name or any identifying information in your paper. Instead, in a separate attachment, include the title of your paper, your name, email, and major. Submissions that do not follow the format instructions will not be accepted.
- Submission date: All materials must be submitted by email to firstname.lastname@example.org by February 1, 2013.
