Why is it that we can remember the color of our very first bicycle, but we cannot remember a phone number long enough to walk from the phone book to the telephone? Why can we build a computer that can beat a grand-master chess player but we cannot build a computer to recognize simple objects? How is human language dierent from the language learned by a parrot? What parts of the brain are responsible for seeing color, or recognizing your mothers face? Cognitive psychology is the study of human behavior and perception and is dedicated to investigating these types of questions.
