Course Description

The course is an in-depth examination of psychological research on gender and racial attitudes. We will discuss the definition and historical context of gender and racial attitudes in the U.S. Next, we will examine the acquisition and developmental trajectories of gender and racial attitudes in children, as well as their functioning in adults. We will also carefully examine what is known about the effects of individuals' gender and racial attitudes on their social relationships, academic and vocational goals, memory, and sense of personal identity. A section will also be devoted to research on interventions designed to promote attitude change in children and adults.

Midterm: 20 multiple choice, 2 essays 40pts Reaction papers: 2, 3-5pp. Each 10pts each
Interview: 3-5pp. 10pts
Term Paper: 10-15pp. 60pts
Attendance/Class participation 20pts
Total: 150pts
