show description
The primary purpose of this course is to examine the major theories of human development, the critical biological, cognitive, and social changes that occur from the prenatal stage through the adolescent stage of life, and the contexts in which development occurs.
As the instructor, I will present information in lecture format as well as facilitate discussion in the classroom. As my student, I expect you to take an active role in the learning process by thinking critically about the readings and coming to class prepared to participate in discussion.
My objectives are that students 1) acquire knowledge about how children develop, and 2) learn to be critical consumers of scientific evidence. Research in developmental psychology has significant implications, and I hope that this introductory course affords you knowledge and skills that you can apply outside of the classroom.
