Course Description
The course is a survey of the social, economic and religious components unique to Iran from the pre-Islamic empire of the Achaemenids through the development of Iran as a medieval and pre-modern Islamic state to 1800 AD. Emphasis is placed on features of Iranian government and society in the pre-Islamic period and the impact of the Islamic conquest on the transformation of preexisting forms of social organization, religion, and intellectual life.
