Welcome to the Department of Religious Studies
The Department was established in 2007 to foster scholarly inquiry about religion. We provide a venue within the University and the community for the exploration of the historical, intellectual, social, and cultural aspects of religions and for the dissemination of knowledge about religion and religions.
We offer an undergraduate major in Religious Studies leading to a B.A. degree and a graduate program leading to M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. We also offer a Graduate Portfolio in the Study of Religion for students already pursuing graduate degrees in other departments at the University.
Our programs cultivate in students knowledge of
- particular religious traditions,
- the historical and cultural contexts of these traditions,
- the thematic, theoretical and comparative dimensions of the study of religion.
