Teaching the Bible in Texas Public Schools: Summer Institute
This Summer Institute for public high school teachers will provide an introduction to the academic study of the Bible. Specialists will lead sessions at The University of Texas at Austin to help teachers develop challenging and appropriate courses in Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) and in New Testament.

Location:The University of Texas at Austin campusRecent legislation has added requirements to the high school curriculum related to the Bible. In order to help teachers and districts fulfill these requirements, the University of Texas at Austin has created this teacher training institute. Specialists in Hebrew Bible and in New Testament will lead sessions designed to prepare teachers for the special content and challenges of these topics.
Sessions will include content presentations, group tasks, QandA, course planning, and print and digital resources. The speakers will be available between sessions for further discussion. We also expect to make one field trip to a synagogue and to a church.

First Amendment: what’s legal in public schools?
Geography and history of Israel
Moses and Torah
The Prophets of Israel
Job and Wisdom Literature
The Gospel accounts of Jesus
Paul and his letters
The Book of Revelation
