Professor delivers lecture on culture and interstellar communication
Prof. John Traphagan spoke in November at the SETI Institute in a joint colloquium with the Carl Sagan Center.

His talk, entitled "Some Thoughts from an Anthropologist on Culture, Interstellar Communication, and the Construction of Interstellar Messages," discussed ways of bringing anthropological conceptualizations of culture to the process of communication with an extraterrestrial other.
The SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute is a prominent, cutting-edge organization dedicated to exploring, understanding, and explaining the origin, nature and prevalence of life in the universe.
Dr. Traphagan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Religious Studies and the Department of Anthropology.
