Spend an Evening with Tibetan Buddhist Monks

On May 2, Tibetan Buddhist Monks from the Gaden Shartse Monastery will meet with students and faculty to talk about the continuation of Tibetan Buddhist traditions in exile, about personal experiences of leaving the Tibetan homeland, and about the current political situation.

Posted: April 21, 2008

In its Indian exile the Gaden Shartse Monastery perpetuates the tradition of the first monastery that the founder of the dGe-lugs-pa school of Tibetan Buddhism, Tsong-kha-pa, has established in the 15th century. The Buddhist monks, who will spend ten days in Austin, have agreed to meet with students and faculty to talk about the continuation of Tibetan Buddhist traditions in exile, about personal experiences of leaving the Tibetan homeland, and about the current political situation.

This is a rather informal event with plenty of time for questions. Light refreshments will be served.

This event will take place Friday, May 2 at 7 PM in the Meyerson Conference Room (WCH 4.118). It is sponsored by the Department of Religious Studies, the Department of Asian Studies, and the South Asia Institute.
