UT Summer Bible Institute Makes Headlines
"Teaching the Bible in Texas Public Schools," a teacher training institute run by the Department of Religious Studies, garnered considerable local media attention.

From August 4-7, 2009, the Department of Religious Studies, in conjunction with the Institute for the Study of Antiquity and Christian Origins, ran a training institute for public high school teachers called "Teaching the Bible in Texas Public Schools." Scholars of Hebrew Scriptures and New Testament led 21 high school teachers in sessions designed to prepare them for the special content and challenges of these subjects. Topics included constitutional issues involved in teaching the Bible, as well as understanding the historical and literary contexts of the Bible.
