Requirements for a B.A. in Czech Language and Culture

Major
The major in Czech Language and Culture requires 24 hours of Czech with 12 of the hours in upper-division coursework.

Minor
Minor for students majoring in Czech Language and Culture: (1) Nine semester hours of courses beyond 507 or the equivalent in a second foreign language; or (2) twelve semester hours, including at least six hours of upper-division coursework, in any field.

Requirements for B.A. in Russian

Major
The B.A. program in Russian language and culture consists of twenty-four semester hours of upper-division coursework. These hours must include 324 and 325 (six hours combined) and eighteen hours chosen from the following four areas. The student must complete at least one course in each area.

    1. Russian Linguistics or Advanced Russian: Russian 326 or 369.
    2. Russian Literature (Original Texts): Russian 329.
    3. Russian Literature (General Survey in Translation): Russian 356, 360.
    4. Russian and Slavic Civilization (Culture, Film, and Folklore): Czech 324, Polish 324, Russian 330, Slavic 320, 321, 324, 325, 356.

Minor
Either (1) twelve semester hours, including at least six hours of upper-division coursework, in any one field of study in the university; or (2) nine semester hours of coursework beyond 507 or the equivalent in a second foreign language, including at least three hours of upper-division coursework. Six of the required hours must be taken in residence. Students who plan to do graduate work in Slavic studies are encouraged to minor in Czech, Polish, or Serbian/Croatian.
