Course Description

The course begins a first-year introduction to the Czech language with an emphasis on speaking and reading. In addition to the textbook itself, music, video and the Internet will be used not only to increase proficiency, but also to expose students to Czech culture.

Attendance and active participation are vital to foreign language study. Students are thus expected to attend class regularly, ask questions and contact me in cases of uncertainty - whether regarding course content, assignments or any other aspect of the class. I will make every effort to respond as quickly and accurately as possible to student questions or concerns. Periodic quizzes and dictations not listed on the syllabus (some of them unannounced) will be scheduled between the regularly scheduled tests and quizzes. A missed quiz, whether scheduled or unscheduled, is a failed quiz. Two quiz grades will be dropped at the end of the semester.
