Film: Tulpan

Tue, March 9, 2010 • 7:00 PM • GRG 102 Geography building, corner of 24th and Whitis.

UT's Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies is proud to present a film series of rare comedies and dramas from Central Asia.   These films are evidence that the most visually unique and charming films being produced today are coming out of a little known part of the world, Central Asia.  You won't find most of these films being shown at your local cineplex or on Netflix.  Toss your copy of 'Borat' out the window, and come see samples of Central Asian cinema that have been called transcendant, surrealist, and captivating.

Films will be shown on Tuesdays from February 23 – March 30 at 7:00pm in GRG 102 (Geography Building, corner of 24th and Whitis).
Films are in original language with English subtitles.

Tulpan -  Kazakhstan (2008) 100 mins.

This comedy received rave reviews from the New York Times, L.A. Weekly, and New York Magazine.  Roger Ebert called it "an amazing film!"  A gentle comedy set on the desolate steppes of Kazakhstan complete with a cast of colorful characters.  Highly recommended.
