This presentation deals with media transition in Croatia through the examples of two regional daily newspapers with a special emphasis on media ownership transformation and the influence these changes have on media as critical public sphere generator. Processes are discussed in a wider context and structure of the media system including specific national and historical circumstances, the structure of economic systems, social values and traditions.
