The first half of this presentation will focus on the basic organizational structure of a US Embassy. Roles of key staff such at the ambassador, deputy chief of mission, foreign service officers, local national employees, the military attaché office and how each of these entities work together as the "Country Team" to implement foreign policy goals of the United States Government will also be discussed. The second half of the presentation will feature the presenter's personal experiences while working at US Embassies in Kiev, Ukraine and Almaty, Kazakhstan. The presenter, Mr. Elliott Nowacky, retired from the US Army in 2008 and is now a second year M.A. candidate at UT's Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies.
