The Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies is proud to announce the ninth screening of the renowned Czech Film Series. All films will be shown every Thursday at 6:30pm in BUR 231.

This week's screening will show Toys in the Attic (2009), a Czech, Slovak, and Japanese co-production directed by Jiří Barta. This film depicts a community of toys and other objects who live in an attic and come to life when no humans are around, in which a marionette, a teddy bear, and a mechanical mouse must come together to rescue their friend Buttercup the doll from her kidnappers, the denizens of the Land of Evil.

The film has received numerous awards, including the Japan Media Arts Festival's Excellence Prize for Animation (2010), the Best Picture award from the New York International Children's Film Festival (2010), the Best Picture award from the Tehran International Animation Festival (2011), the Festival of European Animated Feature Films and TV Specials' Kecskemét City Award, and the Best Art Direction Award from Czech Lions (2010).

The English dub version was directed by Vivian Schilling and features the voices of Forest Whitaker, Joan Cusack, and Cary Elwes.

Films are free and open to the public.*

Films are in Czech with English subtitles.

*While some of the films in the series are suitable for viewers of all ages, many of the films include substantial adult content. (Puppets have sex too!) Please check film ratings online or email markhopkins81@gmail.com for a recommendation for children.
