Romanian Film Series: "When Evening Falls on Bucharest" or "Metabolism"
Fri, April 4, 2014 • 8:00 PM • Marchesa Theater (6226 Middle Fiskville Rd)
This is the second film in the Austin Film Society's series "Riding the Wave: Romania's Newest and Finest," which will present films from the Romanian New Wave of the late 2000s that were made by the first generation of Romanian directors after the collapse of the Ceauşescu regime. Now equipped with the tools, education and political freedom to express themselves, these directors made up for decades of artistic repression by creating brilliant cinema. Check out the flyer for this film series here!
In "When Evening Falls on Bucharest," also known as "Metabolism," a fearless and brilliant story about the cowardice of making art, a director and his lead actress form a complicated relationship off set during the production of their new film. Defined by single takes that last as long as a single reel of film, "Bucharest/Metabolism" asks whether cinematic narrative isn't something that exists off screen as much as on.
