This is the final film in the Austin Film Society's series "Riding the Wave: Romania's Newest and Finest," which will present films from the Romanian New Wave of the late 2000s that were made by the first generation of Romanian directors after the collapse of the Ceau┼čescu regime. Now equipped with the tools, education and political freedom to express themselves, these directors made up for decades of artistic repression by creating brilliant cinema. Check out the flyer for this film series here!

In "Four Months, Three Weeks, and Two Days," at Two college students attempt an illegal abortion during the late years of the regime of Romanian dictator Nicolai Ceau┼čescu. This 2007 Cannes Film Festival Palme D'Or winner was director Cristian Mungiu's break out film, and its release signalled the arrival of the Romanian New Wave, a school of new Romanian directors which fortunately continues to churn out some of the most exciting new cinema on the international festival circuit. To find more information on this film or purchase tickets, please look here.
