Multinational States and Democratization: Avoiding Conflicting Logics - The Case of Kosovo

The process of democratization in Kosovar society is and will be a very challenging process. So how can democracy possibly be achieved in a multinational state like Kosovo? The developments in Kosovo over recent years, particularly in the arenas of electoral politics and institution building, reveal significant moves towards the creation of a political regime for democratic self-government, but still the situation in present-day Kosovo could more or less be described as a democratic laboratory where the international community contributes to the democratic consolidation process in different ways and through different channels.
