David J. Firestein is a career diplomat with the U.S. Department of State and a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Texas. A native of Austin, Texas, David holds a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University (international relations) and two master's degrees from the University of Texas (public affairs and Asian studies). Over the course of his fourteen-year career as a U.S. Foreign Service officer, David has served tours of duty at U.S. embassies in China (five years total) and Russia (four years), and undertaken temporary duty assignments elsewhere in Asia, Europe, and North and South America.
